ECMAScript requirements

The Review Interface does not transpile extension scripts. The script you deliver must be compatible with your target browsers — you are responsible for ensuring this.

If you are writing your extension in TypeScript or using modern JavaScript syntax, use a bundler (such as esbuild or webpack) to compile your source to browser-compatible JavaScript before deploying. The bundler's output target determines browser compatibility, not the source language.
